A loss for words

This winter the professional theatre community has lost too many members. It seems that at every turn we hear about another colleague who has passed away. Sandy Speer former Executive Director of Actors Theatre and Bunbury Theatre board consultant passed in January. Sandy's passing was a shock indeed. He, in partnership with Jon Jory and Trish Pugh developed Actors Theatre into a world class company.

Fred Major left this earth mid January. He was a resident member of ATL since the early 1980's and was a gifted artist. He was last seen this past December in A CHRISTMAS CAROL.

This past week we learned of the death of James (Jim McLure). Jim was an outstanding playwright. Last season he came to Louisville to workshop a play he had written for the late Leo Burmester, entitled FATHER AND SON. We were fortunate enough to watch the play develop over a three day period. From our circle of friends, we understand that Beth Henley was at Jim's bedside when he took his last breath. Beth's play CRIMES OF THE HEART will be performed in April.

We're hoping that this is it for awhile! Too many great people passing. They will all be deeply missed.

The Passing of John Benjamin

Bunbury Theatre is sad to report the passing of John Benjamin. John was a wonderful artist, director, educator and gentleman. He will be missed by all that knew him. His Memorial Service is on Saturday July 17th at 2:00pm at Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Church. John, we love you and will pray for your family.

I hope people actually come out to experience this production. We're having a great time putting it together! Kerk Fisher, the ensemble, everyone is amazingly talented. Through improvisation, composition and scripting we're capturing the essence of Tolle's words.

The Mission of Bunbury Theatre Company:

To create enriching and diverse theatrical experiences for the community and its artists in a live intimate setting.

Since 1985 Bunbury Theatre Company has been producing plays. From Baxter Avenue to 7th Street Bunbury has always searched for just the right home for the company.
Our new home at The Henry Clay has been extremely rewarding and challenging.

After three years of being both a presenting organization and a producing organization, it has become necessary for Bunbury Theatre Company to focus solely on producing. Beginning with the 2010-11 Season, Bunbury Theatre Company will cease to be a presenting organization.

The Bunbury Board of Directors has determined that, as a volunteer-based organization, Bunbury Theatre lacks the required personnel and resources to effectively administer, supervise and present the work of peer producing groups.

Over the last three seasons Bunbury was pleased to open the facility to Pandora Productions. Pandora is an outstanding company and we were honored to offer Bunbury Theatre to Pandora. We hope that you continue to support them wherever they perform.

PJ party at 21c

Guess what? 21c's famous PJ party has taken on a new twist this season! Normally it would cost you $500.00 to attend this prestigious event. Not this season! On June 12th you can make your reservations by donating to your favorite arts organization. There are six organizations to choose from and BUNBURY THEATRE is one of them! Each year the International Contemporary Art Foundation hosts it’s only annual fundraiser to benefit the exhibitions, events, and programming that 21c offers to the public. This year, the Foundation has chosen six local nonprofits to receive donations from anyone who wants to attend and makes a reservation. They include: Blue Apple Players, Bunbury Theatre, Kentucky Shakespeare Festival, Louisville Youth Orchestra, Walden Theatre, and West Louisville Performing Arts Academy.

Each complimentary ticket includes two drinks and a spectacular presentation of delicacies prepared by Proof on Main’s award-winning Chef Michael Paley. Entertainment will include performances from outstanding protégés of the honored arts organizations as well as new and unique international performers, which have become the hallmark of this extraordinary annual event.

Christmas Belles

I just left rehearsal of Christmas Belles at Bunbury Theatre and the show promises to be hysterical! This wacky Christmas Play spins out of control!

I checked with the box-office and tickets are selling despite this lousy economy. If you're looking for a night out. Come see this show! It will add a laugh to your holiday season! Don't miss it! The cast is outrageous. Many groups have taken advantage of the group discount.

Bunbury To Open CHRISTMAS BELLES

Hey Ya'll

Tonight's the first read-thru of Christmas Belles and we're pretty excited and I'd suggest you get your tickets early. This is the Louisville premiere of this production and we've got a great cast for the show.

The cast of CHRISTMAS BELLES includes: Emily Miller, Susan McNeese Lynch, Leah Roberts, Trish Powell, Mike Burmester, Kristy Calman, Jackie Carrico, Ted Lesley, Craig Nolan Highley and Liz Vissing. It's Directed by Nancy Hoover. You've seen nearly all of these Bunbury performers before and some returning to the stage for the first time since we were on 7th Street. Oh 7th Street. Those were the days. What were the powers that be at 21c thinking? Oh well, we're enjoying our new theatre here at The Henry Clay and we want you to come and join us.

BTW, Road To Morroco has some great food and the wine is outstanding. You have to visit RTM to appreciate what a gem this is. RTM is right inside our building and our friend Eddie Maamry is as personable as anyone you'll ever meet. He makes a mean Gyro and the Hummus is to die for!
